When Amie Rueda spots an orchid, in her mind she’s instantly transported back home to her beloved Philippines. In that paradise blessed with stunning waterscapes, tropical flora, sugary white sand beaches and exotic fauna, Amie grew to love the profusion of colorful blooms that filled her aunt’s greenhouse and her front and back yards, scenting the island air with their flowery fragrance. While she loves her homeland, this hardworking professional sought opportunity in a new land when she was a teenager. Arriving in Southern California, she began a career in the medical field, then moved north to Santa Maria to study business management and marketing. After putting her skills to work as an entrepreneur, Amie gradually became as fond of her home on the Central Coast as she is of her island birthplace. A resident of Santa Maria since 1988, she’s now grateful to be able to live and work in this valley nestled in the foothills of Santa Barbara County wine country, known for its temperate climate, magnificent vistas, championship golf courses, pristine beaches and world famous barbecue.

To give back to her community, this make-it-happen businesswoman enjoys playing a leadership role in many civic functions. Recent involvements have included fundraising for people challenged by Alzheimer’s disease, for which she recruited fellow dog-lovers to join her and her toy poodles, Piper Ann and Emma Belle, on a fundraising walk that yielded hundreds of dollars from sponsors. She’s also raised funds for her church through participation in community concerts. Taking part in the Elks’ annual rodeo parade is another annual tradition.
